Fear The Sirens - The Ruins We Used To Call Home
Fear The Sirens are a metalcore/melodic hardcore band from Rome, Italy. Their sound is composed of breakdowns, melodic guitar chords, gang chants as well as the usual stuff that normally surrounds these typical hardcore bands. The vocals are not of the annoyance kind, in which some bands tend to be consistent of. Instead, Fear The Siren's lyrical side boasts with confidence and imagination, using several arrays and ranges within the vocals.
The tracks are heavy, yet comforted with a delicate dose of melody. Imagine British hardcore kings Heart In Hand meeting US big stars We Came As Romans, and Fear The Sirens would initially become your outcome. Although a few of these songs are not as memorable as I would of hoped them to be, the album still strikes as a really fun listen, barely embracing any boring moments.
Their genre never lingers in one categories, but instead sways from three or four, which in my opinion is a fantastic way to stay refreshing and always offer something different. Such as the beautiful interlude halfway through the album 'Where The Ocean Sleeps', which then riots into 'This Is War' - Feat. Josh Jones from Napoleon, possibly the heaviest, and my favourite track amongst them.
The entire albums proves bands from different continents are able to reach listeners from afar, and initially become impressed with their material provided, for have it not been for this review, I would never of found out about this band. Intelligent, brave, and different - Fear The Sirens have surpassed the boundaries on completing a hardcore album that fails to bore me before it's over. Well worth the listen, and I'm sure on a future release there will be something else for them to add, which I greatly look forward to.
