Fearrage - Songs From The Sorrow

Formed in 2014 in Soini Finland the 4 headed band (Juha, Severi, Lassi and Markus) are on their way to become big names in the Finnish metal scene with their old style trash metal combined with new style groove metal and other modern influents. If you already guessed it or read the tittle you know that I'm writing about Fearrage. It's funny to hear that a lot of new bands are trying to combine old and new metal styles and one of the bands who nearly perfected it are Fearrage with new style guitar riffs, skunk beats, fast double bass and a raw vocals.

Their first album was released in 2016 named "Resistance" and after that they recorded a single "Exterminate" in 2017. Not signed to a label they went into the studio again still with their original line-up and finally their second album "Songs From The Sorrow" hit the metal market at December 28th 2018.

Beginning with 'The Day When Sun Fell Down' the album kicks off, starting with a classical guitar intro followed by a trash metal riff combined with skunk beats and the raw voice from Juha. In de middle of the songs the tempo and counting suddenly changes into a breakdown followed by a melodic guitar riff. This combination is very catchy and is followed by a breakdown going on almost the entire song followed by a guitar outro that slips silently away into the background.

'Your Demise' is starting with a rugged guitar riff and skunk beats followed by regular rock beat and ending with fast double bass drumming, the combination makes you want to headbang in your living room. The guitar solo is also well combined with the drumming in this song. When the solo ends and 'Your Demise' goes on, it suddenly stops giving me the feeling that this song should be some longer but maybe that was the goal of the band.

Skiping the 3th song not because I don't like it but just so that you have no idea what's going on the song and it remains a surprise to listen to.

Starting with a threathening intro something strange happens in 'Those Who Do Not Remember The Past'. At the beginning of the song, clean vocals and a relaxing guitar riff. In the middle the song, music gets more technical with some drum fills and double bass patterns. After that, the songs starts to sound threatening again but slowly it disapears at the end of the song.

What I mostly liked about this album is the song structure and the combining of guitar riffs and drumparts. What I did not expected were the clean vocals at the last song, they sounded really good. Combining this with the other musical elements on this album "Songs From The Sorrow" gets a rare 5 out of 5 stars. Not only the music was a contributor but also the talent these guys have. The fact that Fearrage is only 4 years together and already make this kind of material with different counting and other combinations is a brave and if it works out a good move. My prediction is that if Fearrage continues like this, they will become a mayor name in the Finnish and even the European metal scene.
