For Ruin - December
John Murphy is a multi talented musician/songwriter as he wrote all the tracks on this debut album. In the beginning For Ruin was a solo project but in 2005 other members came to join which leaded to a demo and a live DVD in january 2007. That same month the band signed a label contract and in the Autumn they recorded "December". It contains songs from the demos as well as unreleashed tracks. The music of For Ruin is a mixture of death and black metal. But the emphasis is on the melodic guitars with reconizable rhythms but no leads. The heavy metal guitar patterns are catchy and do some nice duelling with the drums. The vocals are growling towards black metal in up tempo beats with more faster parts or dwelling mid tempo breakdowns. At the end you heard a nice album that is not innovative but melodic and catchy and not depressing.
