Forgot - Burning Down

O.K. First off -- the bad stuff. On certain tracks of the newly released "Burning Down" the singer from Forgot sounds like Popeye the sailor man on vocals, and I mean really, more than a little bit. The guitars are out of tune almost throughout, and it's drum machine all throughout as well. Not a whole lot of variance going on there in the rhythm section. With all that aside. Forgot are a kick-ass black metal band and I actually enjoyed certain songs on "Burning Down" quite a bit.

The band seem to have included their stronger tracks towards the end of the album, with "Misanthropy" and especially "Nuclear Winds" being a lot stronger songs than "Again" or "All Will Disappear" which the album starts with. "Burning Down" was actually recorded in 2001 and the band Forgot are one of the oldest black metal bands in Russia, resurfacing recently after a long hiatus.

Being a fan of pagan black metal bands Emperor and Bathory and slavic metal acts Lucufugum and Drudkh, I truly appreciate what this band has done, and yes, you can detect the influence of Mother Russia in Forgot's music, sort of a Darkthrone meets the "Fiddler On The Roof" effect if you will.
