Gruesome - Dimensions Of Horror

I guess those who are into death metal and follow what's new, are already familiar with Gruesome and their impressive debut album from last year titled "Savage Land". Matt Harvey (Exhumed) on vocals/guitars, Robin Mazen (Derketa) on bass, Daniel Gonzales (Possessed) on guitars and the x-Malevolent Creation drummer Gus Rios have recorded the follow-up to the first record which is a six song EP called "Dimensions Of Horror".

In case you have listened "Savage Land" then you will not be surprised by what you'll hear on the new recording which is a homage to the first two Death albums. Although Gruesome compose their own songs, you just cannot miss the similarity between the opening track 'Forces Of Death' and Death's own 'Zombie Ritual' as well as the title song 'Dimensions Of Horror' whose beginning will immediately make you remember 'Evil Dead'. The other four tracks are no different - fast oldschool death metal like 'Amputation' (which not surprisingly reminds of Death's 'Mutilation') or more mid-tempo stuff like 'Seven Doors'. The production of the EP is raw and if you don't listen to Matt Harvey's voice (who is doing his best to immitate Chuck Shuldiner anyway) you can easily decide that someone is playing 'Scream Bloody Gore'.

Whether you find the existence of bands like Gruesome justified or not is a matter of personal opinion. The point is that "Dimensions Of Horror" is a tribute to Death's "Scream Bloody Gore" - oldschool death metal played by experienced musicians. It's not on par with Death's legendary debut but is enjoyable enough to listen to.
