Haemic - Fields Of Sanguine
Now this is an interesting release from Taiwanese symphonic black metal band Haemic, a fifteen track album where the last five tracks are all instrumentals. Its starts of very atmospherically before it blasts in with the real raspy vocals of Mitchell coming in, good track the opener “Eyes of Evil” and sets the album up nicely. They are a strange concept with all three members being in different parts of the world and recording their parts separately and mixing it all together to get the final product, weird way of doing it I guess but in this day and age I can see how it would work. The finished product is pretty decent and it is amazing that they have never met each other as they all seem on the same wavelength, and this is an epic of an album clocking in at over an hour in length, value for money or what!! It is well played, the guitar work by Ray is of a very good quality indeed, with good raspy vocals as I have mentioned and the programming skills of Adam it all works very well.
I am not a big lover of symphonic black metal but I did enjoy this album although it probably goes on too long for me and it is an album I dipped in and out of, which worked well for me. “Hellgate” is my favourite track on the whole album as it starts of very orchestral, building up the atmosphere before the guitars kick in, good track. “Arch Nemesis” is another goodie with a more straight forward black metal feel to it, but it is a decent album all in and something a bit different from my usual listening.
All in all a decent album played well and executed well, a different take on black metal for me and a very novel way of getting a band together. I would certainly be interested in hearing more form this outfit.
