Head Cleaner - Resistance, Determination And The Sheer Will To Overcome

Following two full length albums, Macedonian Death/Grinders Head Cleaner come at you now with an EP, featuring 7 tracks and running for little over 23 minutes. The death and grind mix reminds me of mid period Napalm Death, which would be between their Diatribes and Words from the Exit Wound albums, which is actually quite a good period and style. Evgenidis’ vocals range from screams to growls and never feel out of place, this gives a general level of comfort as you listen. The guitar sound and style is typical for the genre, although the greater influence of death metal comes when songs like ‘The Chain’ bruise your already battered body.

Carnage can resume and continue with many of these tracks, the surprising one is the very atmospheric ‘Departures – Arrivals’. This is eerie, slightly industrial in places, but the poignant use of single notes and open strings makes the tunes atmosphere very tangible and desirable. In general, ‘Resistance, Determination And The Sheer Will To Overcome’ is a cool release, there is nothing really out of the ordinary to make this a unique death/grind masterpiece except the closing track, but there is still enough music, talent and prowess to make this so far away from being a boring effort, Head Cleaner are certainly worth checking out.
