Heretic Soul - Born Into This Plague

OK lets get one thong straight before we even start! I like GOOD deathcore. A lot of people dismiss the genre but it really does have it moments - any band that goes out of ts way to be brutal is fine by me.

What we have here is Heretic Soul, four guys from Turkey. Is this good deathcore??  There are certainly strong death metal influences on album opener My Way of Life but there are touches of gang vocals and opening riff from Life Becomes Our Grave is pure hardcore.  This riff would be at home on any Terror record. This is no bad thing but will have death purists running for the hills. You will listen to this record from beginning to end in a sitting but will you go back for more? Probably not that many times.

This is competent well played deathcore but does not deliver that final killer blow. The tracks do begin to blend into similarity. The problem is there so many bands trying to do this type of thing at the moment. It is not a bad record by any standards but is a tad generic to these listener's ears as this is a super over saturated genre and to rise above the rest is reserved for the truly special ones.
