Hilton Dive - Huginn & Muninn
Don't expect much technicality from the EP of Hilton Dive, but what it lacks in being a complete insanity of a listen it makes up for just creating some good, enjoyable groove that merges Death Metal and Hardcore together for something to just rock out to. Tracks like "Storm" and "Enlightened" are just churning over and over with doses of melody mixed with the rhythm despite its simplicity. The vocals are deep and grating, though a bit distorted with the rest of the music to give it a slight 'demo' edge, but at the same time it makes the music grittier and more intriguing. "State Of Grace" carries a bit more anthem-like quality to it with the segmented chugs that build towards the melodic interlude that buzzes angrily but still carries the rhythm rather than ruining the atmosphere. Brutal yet compromising, 'Huginn & Muninn' is something that all Death Metal fans can probably gravitate to without arguments about it being 'too clean' or 'too old school' and just enjoy what is here. Hopefully the Brutalism horde (along with the rest of the Metal world) will hear more from these talented artists shortly.
