I Chaos - I Chaos
This is my first contact with IChaos. I never heard of this band before, but after a few inquests I found out, this new Dutch act consists of (former) members of Cypher and Blo.Torch. “IChaos” seems to be a self-financed and self-released promotional output and the music can be described as a meeting of Death Metal and technical Thrash Metal on a high level of musicianship. This 4 track appetizer with a total playing time of about 16 minutes contains thought-out songs with variable riffing in a real good recording quality with a nice modern touch. The songs range from slower passages with early Meshuggah-like grooves to midtempo based pounding and highspeed blasting. A few disharmonic ingredients also found their way to this disk. The typical dark Death Metal growling fits the music pretty good, but some more diversifications (maybe some screams, etc.) would have been even better.
Despite the musical skills, the songs aren´t too overloaded with unnecessary and exorbitant fretboard gymnastics, which would certainly derogate some structures and ideas. Nevertheless the tracks aren´t very catchy and this promotional release demands more than just one listening session. Maybe the band can stand one´s ground among all the similar acts and releases. It´s a long way to establish oneself, but the first step has been made. In any case interesting and suitable for fans of technical Death / Thrash Metal.
