Immolith - Hymns To The Countess
Hailing from the U.S., Immolith was formed in the autumn of 2008 “to perform blackened rituals in the grand tradition of old school evil black metal” as their website and MySpace profile proudly proclaims. One of Immolith’s founding members is drummer/vocalist Warhead who some of you might remember as the drummer for another American black metal band known as Abazagorath. Joining Warhead on this demo recording are bassist Ahazu and guitarist Isiamon. Hymns To The Countess is the band’s follow up to the cassette demo The Ghost Tower, likewise released this past year. There are a few similarities to Abazagorath in terms of the intensity and mid 90s cult fervor the original compositions were written with. The band seems to place a little more emphasis on vicious melodies and mournful dirges here, particularly in the second track, which serves to accentuate Warhead’s relentless skin bashing and the occultic overtones of the EP. The band’s cover of Venom’’s “Countess Bathory” call forth similar images to the ones Cradle Of Filth created in the days of their debut album, before they traded corpsepaint for vampirish makeup and placed the majority of their focus on guitars and drums. Hymns To The Countess is available for download at http://forcesofsatan.ithinkmusic.com and the band is preparing to release a CD version of this EP in the near future.
