Immolith - Storm Dragon

Black metal creeps up from all corners of the globe. But I never thought New Jersey to be one of these places. I know once you get onto the turnpike it smells pretty grim but didn't know it sounded this way.

If you didn't know how guitar harmonies are supposed to sound Immolith shows you on this record. The drummer uses a lot of dynamics so your not overwhelmed by blasting the entire time. Imagine rising flames and a small congregation of people invoking an acient dragon of sorts. Well thats "Invocation" which is the intro instrumental track. I love the beginning of "Rites Of The Blood Moon" drum and guitar section. It's not a straight in line blast with the guitar tremolo riff. So I feel like I'm climbing a winding mountain path while the carriage is shaking back and forth and I'm about to fall to my death. At the 1:08 mark on "Storm Dragon" it has this sweet guitar harmony that I could hum all day. It's great when bands can be brutal and unrelenting but still retain that fluid groove to their music. Hearing a kick drum that sounds real rather than an electronic sample is always a huge plus. It sounds like the vocalist is spewing stomach bile from his mouth as he spews forth his wretched lyrics.

This record keeps your interest from start to finish. The song structure is very well done and song writing is fresh but still retains its second wave black metal roots. Put your headphones on and absorb the smooth frostbitten waves of Immolith.
