Immortal - All Shall Fall

A well-known and respected act like this doesn´t really need any further introduction. As a metalhead you´ve got to be slightly retarded if you never heard about Norways, and probably also the worlds greatest black metal band, Immortal. After a six year pause they now return with full force and with an album full of influences from all ages of black metal, as well as from themselves. For instace the guitarmelody before the chorus in the title track reeks of 1991, followed by a mighty chorus and with the vocals, in tune, by Abbath (vocals, guitar) sounding like The Emperor in Star Wars. Magnificent. `All shall fall` is also the only really fast song with a majority of blastbeats. I don´t know if it´s because of the hard rocking side project ´I´ or the Motorhead-tribute Bombers, but the answer to the question why I like this album so much, is as simple as it´s true: It rocks the crap out of me! ´The rise of Darkness` is a Venom-like thing which contains all the right stuff for a black metal smash hit. An threatening song title, just the right groove plus a spooky atmosphere. Lyrics are as always written by Demonaz and words like cold, apocalypse, fire, holocaust, eternal, dark, chaos and snow are used frequently and/or because they´re required to. I think of Immortal as a black metal-Metallica. They may not be the sharpest of musicians, but they sure knows how to bust out a tune or two. Or in this case, seven. All tracks differs from each other, all in their own, splendid way. It has been, and there will always be posers and copycats, but among us mortals, they are IMMORTAL!
