Inexorable – Sea Of Dead Consciousness
Inexorable are a two piece from Germany, "Sea Of Dead Consciousness" is the latest in a string of EP’s the band has put out (they are yet to release a full length). The EP is in two parts, the first half is four tracks simply named 'I' – 'IV'. The four individual tracks work combined as one piece. It’s a dreary, dread filled death metal much of the same atmosphere of Sulphur Aeon or Chthe’ilst. That Lovecraft inspired dark death metal that borderlines on black metal. It takes a few listens to sink in but its hypnotic in a way and you find yourself shutting off the world while listening to it.
The second half is 3 covers. Mayhem’s 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas', Immolation’s 'I Feel Nothing' and Mysticum’s 'Black Magic Mushrooms'. All three cover’s are done in the bands own style which is pretty cool. They find the nice balance between keeping faithful to the original and doing their own take on the songs. The fact that they cover Immolation and Mayhem gives good insight to the broad spectrum of the band’s sound and sums things up nicely.
This is an interesting EP. It’s something a bit different and Inexorable are one of the more unique death metal acts out there so this is well worth checking out. You are left with your appetite wetted for more content so a full length from these guys would be very cool indeed.
