Insanity - Visions Of Apocalypse
Hailing from California in the United States is the band Insanity, and how awesome it is to have a band that is named in what is to be a description in direct correlation with their music. Indeed this is absolute Insanity! These guys have been around since 1985 crafting and perfecting their art, and the culmination is the head banging madness you will here in these 9 tunes. The sickness that this band creates is reminiscent in the auditory equivalent of high impact blood spatter caused by an iron mallet to the temple. The agony, the anger of that agony, and the ensuing rampage of vengeance can be felt in every note played on this CD.
Right off the bat, you can pick up on a strong Possessed/Deicide type of influence and vibe which sounds just a tad bottom heavy (due to the awesome production) and more on the death metal side of things, although the thrash element is still there. It’s like the band is writing the music in the death metal style but the instruments are tuned to more of a thrash type of sound. I like this approach with this material. With a lot of bands I have heard it was one genre influence or the other at any given time in a song, but on this release, the band really create an awesome presentation of sound. Everything is fairly strong here but the riffs, indeed are the strongest part of this release. You almost get the feel that the band spent more time on this aspect than any other, but that is not to say that the band did not put everything they had into every stage and every part of this album. My one and only issue is with the bass. I feel it could have been brought up just a little bit more. I only mention it as a matter of record and it does not, in any way, interfere with the listening enjoyment or the masterpiece that this release is. I really liked the drums on this CD. The drummer really shows his skill on these 9 tracks and, as far as I can tell, there are no triggers which to me is a plus. Timing and tempo is always on point as is the continuity and flow. The drum work is definitely one of the highlights of this CD. The other would have to be the vocals. Just totally sick! Imagine, if you will, the vocals from Immolation, Incubus, and early Malevolent Creation. Truly unique vocals to say the least. This guy is definitely not singing from his throat that is for sure. This is absolute agony pulled from the wretched depths of purgatory!
Definitely pick this up if you’re a fan of any of the above mentioned bands. I will definitely have to do some searching and track down the band’s back catalog. This is just one of those bands that entices you to go back and dig deep into their history so you can know how they have progressed and the hard work that they have put into their music to get where they are today. Unspeakable Axe Records has released this CD so you know it has to be good. UAR doesn’t mess around with bands who’s hearts aren’t really into what they are creating. No need to worry about that here though. With this album, you have heart, determination, and perseverance. Get in touch with UAR and get this release. You will not regret it.
