Iron Griffin - Curse Of The Sky
Iron Griffin’s “Curse Of The Sky” is a really unique release I sense that it is definitely heavy metal, however, it incorporates some doom elements as well. Almost immediately I pick up on vibes of Pagan Altar and Black Sabbath. The traditional elements are a bit more obscure and choppy, but I think this is what the band was going for, so I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a flaw or lack of ability. Most metal heads will understand when I say that the music sounds really “old”, even so, it definitely sets the mood for the other elements. This is a sound that is not for everyone. If you love your heavy metal mixed with doom, then you will love this.
This may not be the perfect album, but it is up to par and the delivery is as unique as the sound and I think that is what is going to attract people to this release. It’s hard to pinpoint an exact sound for these guys, but if I had to, I would say that This release sounds like what it would sound like if Air Supply played heavy metal. That’s not really a bad thing, it’s just unique and that’s why I say it may not be for everyone.
Now, if you like your heavy metal a little strange, or the envelope pushed a little, then I would highly recommend that you contact Gates of Hell Records or Iron Griffon for further info. It will be interesting to see what the band have to offer in the future and if they decide to keep their current sound. Either way, I am sure their fanbase will grow with each release. They are interesting enough to be taken seriously even though their sound is a bit odd.
