Ironwood - Fire Water Ash
Hailing from Australia Ironwood's "Fire Water Ash" brings us Pagan Folk Metal with a good blend of accustics and mythological storytelling. What I have found with "Fire Water Ash" is that it's tracks are not to be judged on an individual level but one must judge and take in this album as a whole. There is a story being told here and each track is an extenstion of the one before, with unexpected twists and variuos vocal ranges (that are anything but traditional), killer solos where needed, solid riffs and a sombre mellowness where necessary without sounding wishy washy. I love the harmonized chants and the bass soloing is superb! Love how this band seems to celebrate the bass's presence and the accrustic work is simply enchanting. The vocals can be both this album's flaw or savior depending how you are looking at it and which part you are listening to. I would suggest to give this a listen, glad that I did (:
On a whole (which is the only way to judge this album), I give this a 3.5/5.
