Iskalde Morket - The Reincarnation

John Rogers is a total enigma.  From darkest Norfolk he keeps pushing boundaries until you think they cannot be pushed any further and then throws a thirteen track album out that surpasses expectations.

With the help of fellow musicians Tim Burden and Mark Thaxter, I can’t help but think this is one superbly mixed up genre, so everyone gets something!

In pursuit of pleasure the album kicks off with 'The Precipice' – a dark ambient little number with fuzzy distortion and whispered voices, enough to give anyone a nice stark chill down the spine and lasting over six minutes.

'Wolf Phallus' holds a more textured layer of guitar and drums with a chugging effect of doom although a little more up tempo than one would expect from a black metal genre, however the vocals, ah yes the vocals, without a doubt are superbly gnarly.

Now to the tongue in cheek title 'Sinking Ships And Hardships'. Never far away from the distortion and chugging guitars with the harsh whispered growls it certainly makes for a good listen.

The highly delightful samples on 'Isildurs Bane', are fiery and extreme with a lot of powerful edged drumming to accompany the vocal ensemble.

Like a punch to the groin 'I Am Vesuvius' kicks off with a more punk vocal and exploding drum beats lasting for a meagre one minute and two seconds.

Bludgeoning beats and harshness abound for 'Anak Krakatau'.  Exploring once more the vocal dexterity of John Rogers, who I am amazed has not ruptured his spleen!

Another interesting title 'Straight Edge Fucks and Krewsh Cunts' – brutality at its best! Fast and ferocious, it will have you salivating from the attack as it rampages through the speakers and right into the aural.

'The Troo Kvilt Elite' – A mix of gnarliness and clean vocal with a battering of drums that again lasts so little time, to fully bask in its splendour.

'Stoners Pot Palace' – my favourite title and track on the album. This bristles with twisting and alluring sounds that have me reaching for the replay button on my now wilting computer. It holds a supreme rhythm and is antagonistic to its stunning end. Back to repeat!

'Post F2A Blues' – again with a vocal change to a more punk influence this fires on all gas cylinders and rampages through the entirety of its one minute twenty seven seconds.

This track is also genius with Tim on vocals. 'We Hate the Humans' - Another raucous and vicious onslaught is to be experienced as the fast pace catches you and wipes you into oblivion. Pay particular attention to the drumming that hard beat is just so mesmerising!

The title track 'The Reincarnation' starts off with some intriguing beguiling beats and distorted guitar, but for me the gruesome vocals from John rein the track back to its black metal roots, and yet I can hear the early Sabbath influence on this and yes it is another favourite! – but maybe because it lasts longer than just over a minute! Rhythmically sweet!

The final track 'The 13th Desecration Of Golgotha' is doom laden with ambiance in abundance. Slow and winding it reminds me of a snake. Unveiling a fiendish side with its harsh in your face drum beat and in the background the gargling can be heard, although Tim is back with his urgent frenzied vocal and suddenly the pace hot’s up – this is a wicked track to finish on as it just taunts and sticks two fingers up at mankind.  They do indeed hate the humans!

To Sum up:
This album really does surpass expectations. Its gnarly mass of vocals embed themselves in the psyche never to be forgotten with the clever addition of clean but urgent punk vocal, all washed down with black ambiance and metal chugs enriched with ferocious rhythms and slow plodding doom.

A very entertaining ritual of madness can be experienced when listening to Iskalde Morket.  It is indeed the brain child of John Rogers nobody else could produce such hard core mastery.

Really basking in this one! So for lovers of black metal, hints of punk and stoner doom this is definitely worth a listen or six.
