Isthar - Chaos Death Reincarnation
Isthar is a 6 piece band from the Netherlands/Germany who first released in 1996. In 2008 they have released "Chaos Death Reincarnation". Recorded, mixed and mastered by Hans Pieters, Barbara van der Neut and Isthar at Excess Studios Rotterdam, this album is a bit of a hit and a miss for me.
The good points are the beat down double kick drop sections. Always waiting round the next corner but immediately let down by a soft bushy snare sound that does the music no favors and often not in time with its self. I always define fast black metal by the blast beats and this EP has just shot itself in the foot. The guitar poses an impressively threatening tone gritty and stands out well I'd say. The music tends to get dull in spit of some excellent doom drops that are instead very bleak and atmospheric.
On the whole the album is well put together and could be a small classic, given credit where due on the "Reincarnation" track.
