Legacy Of Kain - Paralelo XI
Legacy Of Kain are what you would call a modern thrash band from out of Curitiba, ParanĂ¡, Brazil. Formed only in 2016, they have already been through what looks like a lot of line-up changes, through those mere two and a half years. With six members come and gone already, two only in a live capacity, they seem to have finally settled on their new main three. With Markos Franzmann on vocals, Karim Serri on guitars and Tiago Rodrigues in the drum throne. No bass, that's right, no bass, even listed under live, there is no bass player anymore. The last one listed started in 2018 and apparently was done?, seriously listed as a question mark. But I digress. Modern thrash from Brazil, yeah.
If the idea of modern thrash is something that confuses you, imagine a band that sounds like Lamb Of God likes Testament and Meshuggah a lot. And that is pretty much exactly what you get with Legacy Of Kain and their new album, "Paralelo XI", here. Fast thrashy riffs, a mix between thrashing and blasting drums, screaming (almost guttural) vocals and lots of stops and rhythmic breakdowns. Once again, refer to first sentence of paragraph and that is it.
There is some pretty good stuff here, nothing ground-breaking or out of this world but solid, good stuff. Well written, performed, recorded, good. My only advice to Legacy Of Kain would be to trim the fat. 12 tracks of full on modern thrash can cause ear fatigue and take something that could be really good and push it downhill. With an album like this a quick in and out works best. Oh, and too many intros too, when you have a lead in track that is an intro you do not need a bunch more. Otherwise, "Paralelo XI" is a pretty good, solid album. If you are really into modern thrash such as this, you will love it. For the rest of us, yeah, solid.
