Lucifers Hammer - Mists Of Time MMXIV
How about a little blast from the past? Those kind folks at Destro Records have unearthed a real diamond in the rough with the re-release of 1997's "Mists Of Time" album from US black/death metal band Lucifer's Hammer, a band who started out back in the 80's and saw in the new Millennium before calling it a day! What a find "Mists Of Time" is too, a thoroughly hungry, filthy slice of blackened death, a lurking bout of brooding savagery that even now the best part of two decades on out classes many albums released today. Some bands are satisfied with a processional blast of extremity, not Lucifer's Hammer.
"Mists Of Time" is a blueprint in savagery, technical aggression and bleak, mysterious diversity! Featuring grim black metal shrieks, crushing old school death metal riff-age and a sound shrouded in cunning, mystique and cold fury, Lucifer's Hammer really did exhume all of their hidden talents for both musicianship and song writing in order to unleash this heavyweight champion of an album that slams through death metal, howls into black metal and even packs a little ominous doom like moods into the mix for good measure. Savage riffs, crushing beats, the deep atmospheric tones of an organ and even some female vocals, "Mists Of Time" has it all!
