Maim - From The Womb To The Tomb
Swedens Maim was formed back in 2006 and “From The Womb To The Tomb” is their very first sign of life. And let me tell you… it´s a dirty one. If you´re looking for something modern and well-produced, you can stop reading this review right now. These guys combine the rough style of songwriting of the old Autopsy releases with simple but effective riffs in the vein of Death Breath, Sarcofago, early Sepultura and Abscess. It´s hard to imagine this one was recorded in 2009, because it sounds like a late 80´s / early 90´s low-budget garage production. But it fits the songs pretty good and the atmosphere is equal to Sepulturas “Morbid visions“ era. The vocals are harsh and the lyrics deal with death in all of its forms. Maims debut release is old school as fuck and reminds me of the days when the Death Metal scene was small and tape trading was up to date. A sloppy but real nice reminiscence of the birth of a whole new scene.
