Mass Idolatry - Impure

That Italians can produce good music was already proved by bands like Cripple Bastards or Corpsefucking Art. But these bands did not reach the Grind-Olympus. This could be changed soon. Mass Idolatry could be the first band from Italy which reach the Grind-Olympus. Their debut album "Impure", released in September 2014 is damn close to it. The four guys playing through the Extreme-Metal-History in 32 min and 18 songs (in average 1:45 min per song). First of all, they serve grindcore but with cool elements of crust, deathmetal and a little bit of old-school-hardcore. Regarding the recording quality is no dry eye left. Cool recording and mixing. The toms are a bit thin but in sum there is very much strength in all instruments and also in the voice. You can tell that the guys know how to use their instruments, though not in absolute perfection. Exceptionally or particularly complex rhythms are not presented. But I can forgive them due to the excursions to other genres. Little stops to see that there is something on the edge of grindcore. This makes the album quite varied and interesting and shows that they can arrange songs even though the virtuosity of other bands is not available but without using annoying samples on throughout the album what - today - is not often the case. It is not necessary, the album works without it. Ideal for listening while driving a very fast car or during slicing up a corpse. I also like the openings of the songs and the preparings to jump into fast parts in a special way. Ideal for a great and cool mosh-pit I think. I want to see this band live as soon as possible!

However, the best for last. The guitar sound extremely reminds me of Entombed’s first album "Left Hand Path" but although the sound of Mass Idolatry is a bit brighter. But I like it very much, because the sound of Left Hand Path was really divine! Just because of these sounds it is worth buying the disc. So you get pure rough grindcore with the guitar-sound of one of the best metalalbums ever, I think. My favorite song is 'Pororoca', because I like the crust-parts in it and for me some guitar-riffs could be from the "Clandestine" or from "Left Hand Path". A song in which you can let yourself fall in slow rhythms first and then from time to time incites you to disengage. I look forward to the next album and I hope they continue this way. Until then, this disc is going to turn in my disc player often.
