Meshuggah - ObZen

Sweden’s masters of technical math metal return to the field with ObZen, which will not disappoint any fans of hard technical metal, anywhere.  This 52-minute opus hits hard and fires on all cylinders.

This album has a consistent perfect sound with all instruments mixed well and fully audible to the listener.  If drums are your thing, you already know Thomas Haake will blow you away with his intricate kick drum rhythms and use of multiple cymbals to shatter your mind.  The bass guitar can be heard throughout all the songs providing a great compliment to low-end guitars and kick drums.  To all the guitar players this album delivers great solos, catchy riffs and melodies that leave you banging your head.

Even though the band plays technical metal with strange time signatures, most of the songs on ObZen are at a faster speed then you might expect.  It isn’t an all out speed war though, with slow groovy songs like Bleed and the title track, ObZen, the album has a great mix of tempos.

ObZen is a technical masterpiece that won’t leave you disappointed.
