Metal Tales - Fury Of The Guitar Gods (game)
"Metal Tales" is a Rouge like shooter game where you have to save metal fans through different levels. Because this game is a Rouge like shooter game it looks very much like the game serie "The Binding Of Isaac". Because of this, it makes pretty hard on you in the game because if you get shot down, you have to start all over from the beginning.
It is no surprise that the game is called "Metal Tales: Fury Of The Guitar God" (reference to Celtic Frost's "Morbid Tales"?) because this game is made by metalheads made for metalheads and that is reflected throughout the whole game, very beautiful. The enemies are namely depicted as different kinds of metalheads, such as: moshers, growlers, guitar players etc. Another aspect which is nice is use of metal music that plays during the game, each room has its own kind of style. You have to shoot with a guitar your way out in all the rooms and at the end you have to fight a boss to enter a new level. The goal is to free your metal brothers from an ancient curse. To move you have to use your keyboard. All the bosses you encounter have their own number, so basically every boss is a band you have to fight.
Deeper into the game it gets more interesting by the quests you have to do in the game, and the bosses you have to beat. If you beat a boss you get pentagram points which you can use to upgrade your character, this helps you to get through the levels. Also you earn points to improve your guitar. Thus, you keep playing the game and want to get better because more points gets you further in the game and the further you come the more points you can earn. And all levels are randomly generated so never the same. It's simply addictive!
The only downside to the game are the bosses, they are not too bad to fight against, but their lives and their attack pattern is just too strong. You easily lose and have to start over again.
All in all a very nice game and hopefully updates are added in the future. Would like to see more enemies and the bosses slightly tweaked but until then we will wait patiently and continue to try to beat the bosses to move forward in this Metal game!
Pro:
+ songs from well known metal bands
+ nice story for a rogue like shooter game
+ many different characters and items
Con:
- bosses are too strong
- little variation in enemies
Graphics: 4/5
Sound: 5/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Plot: 4/5
-----------
Overall: 4/5
