Metalhead - Metalhead
Metalhead hits all points with a heavy metal hammer.
There are so many genres of metal these days it is almost ridiculous. With a name like Metalhead, a band better be all-encompassing of heavy metal, right? Being from Germany (home of the Scorpions, land of the Bratwurst) they had better be freaking good.
Well, Metalhead hits all points with a heavy metal hammer. Hitting so many levels of epic heavy metal bands (intentional or not) Metalhead does not disappoint in their self-titled release.
It is refreshing and downright exciting to hear an energetic band like this in 2012. The guitars scream on tracks like 'Hunter' and 'Chains Of Steel'. And, holy heck if the singer doesn’t sound like Rob Halford (Judas Priest, Fight) in a lot of the songs.
'Witch Hunt' has that creepy old-school black metal guitar and cymbals in the beginning and goes into an Iron Maiden sounding guitar, then back into the gritty black metal guitar then the vocalist belts out a King Diamondesque cackle. Not sure if all this was intentional, but it works.
There are so many overtones of other bands' music in Metalhead's music, I honestly had fun guessing which song sounded like what other "popular" metal band. And with so many tinges of other epic heavy metal bands, this band has every right to call themselves Metalhead.
