Morbid Slaughter - A Filthy Orgy Of Horror And Death
If ever there was an album title that suits the music, then this is it. It is a free for all of nasty, harsh blackened thrash, maybe some touches of the early Bathory sound (the band have previously covered ‘Witchcraft’ too), but certainly in tune with the South American scene and early Germanic thrash.
The first trio of tunes from ‘Cannibal Butcher’ through to ‘Chainsaw Blade’ set the bar high, a much improved sound when you consider their earlier material. What this album release does is capture to rawness of those earlier recordings but propels the band into a higher level in terms of sonic audio violence. Yes its touch more polished, but it’s still raw as hell (you must be wondering what those early recordings were like huh! Check out ‘…Rancid Death Awaits’, that’s a compilation of early material).
But back to this beast, I am filled with a sense of bloodlust, an evil darkness prevails over my thought patterns, you fist will arise, your head will bang. Of there was ever a band worthy of underground notoriety and cult status, then Morbid Slaughter should be first in line. It sounds really honest, I believe every note, every lyric, even down to the slower (by album comparison) to the GG Allin cover ‘Fuck Off (We Murder), which is a touch special in itself.
Raw like Satan’s ass being dragged along an asphalt road as a result of a motorcycle mishap, bleak enough to cross between, black, thrash and punk sub-genres and fulfilling enough to put a smile on your face no matter what tune you care to play at any one time.
