Nalvage - Worship Dehumanization
I wasn't too sure what to expect with Nalvage as the name doesn't give too much away about nor make any suggestions. Upon first listen, I am greeted with a very Mayhem-esque distorted soundscape intro. To be honest, when I heard this I was a little disappointed because I thought "oh no not a full on black metal band". Then the first track " Visceral Human Obedience" kicks in with one hell of a bang and boy was I made to eat my words.
Granted, these guys have black metal influences but most certainly leaning more so to the death metal sides of things. Sure, I hear influences such as Immortal, Emperor and the aforementioned Mayhem but I hear alotta death metal in the mix such as Behemoth, perhaps some Pessimist and abit of Morbid Angel and Nile for measure. This ecclectic mix is used to create a soundscape that I am sure will appease fans of both black and death genres.
The production is very natural sounding and is very heavy and very evil in sounding. The riffs are chunky and quite twisting but unrelenting. There's no wanky solos, it's all about the riffs here which pulverise the senses here. Speaking of pulverising, the drums! My god the fuckin drums blow my mind here! The drums are triggered but quite naturally so in sound but they don't let up for one second and are executed with the utmost precision. The bass is fairly inaudible in the mix which is hidden behind the wall of guitars and blasting drums apart from the end where we are treated to a strangely placed pop and slap bass funk out. It would have been nice to hear it more so but a minor gripe. Vocally, this album goes from screeching high vocals to the most ungodly of lows but for the most of the CD again as I said earlier leans more so to the death metal lows which pleased me so!
There are 6 tracks (clocking in at 31 mins 34 secs- yep, long songs) of unholy blasting blasphemy here to which I am pleased to say there are no slow songs. It's nothing but rippers here. It's hard to single out highlight tracks here as it's written so well and flows so good. It all needs to be heard.
So as I listen to this slab of brutal blasphemy on this Sunday sabbath, those with any sort of religious beliefs, fuck them and turn your crosses upside down, for this is one huge slab of blasphemy. Great stuff, now hurry up with a full length and I'm sorry for doubting you guys. Buy this!
