Nerve - Hate Parade

Nerve is an Italian thrash/death metal band that plays at a much more aggressive and hardcore pace than other more traditional thrash and death metal bands. Their album "Hate Parade" has thrash and modern death metal elements performed at a fast, violent pace.  Also, it has jazzy components that appear here and there which give the album its metal groove sound.

Musically they are tight, precise, and use that whole "in your face" attitude to their advantage. The guitar work is heavy, violent, and fast. The jazzy guitar work gives the album a nice groove sound and some nice variety. The drumming is excellent. It's technical, fast, and has great varied rhythms throughout each song. The songwriting is good and the vocals are original, yet comparable to 80s death metal. The screaming and low growly vocals are a great fit with the music and tone of the album. However, at times, he uses clean vocals and they sound somewhat off. They are not completely bad... but not completely great. For example, the clean vocals used in the ballad "How to Fix a Broken Heart" sound a bit off key and they don't fit well with the rest of the album. Musically and lyrically the ballad is great.  It is sorrowful yet still keeps that angry ggressive tone. But those clean vocals just don't fit well.

Overall, this is a good album that carries a heavy, aggressive, groove pace. Thrash and death metal fans that are looking for something a bit more aggressive than the traditional will enjoy this album.
