Nervosa - Victim Of Yourself

Hang on a second, an all FEMALE thrash metal band? From Brazil? Fuck it, why not. Despite this cheeky quip, I've always felt kind of sorry for the female species within the heavy metal community as many seem to focus entirely on the fact that there's a distinct lack of penis to be found. For some insane reason, this is met with confused response. What's the big fucking deal? We're all human beings (except for Lars Ulrich, who I'm convinced is a parasitic lizard man) and if the ladies want to jam out some killer thrash metal, then more power to 'em I say.

Comparisons from the get-go: Destruction, Exodus, Onslaught, Seregon, and Loudblast. This is some heavy duty stuff with plenty of raw energy and D-tuned chuggery going on, with vocals that sound suspiciously similar to those of Schmier (of Destruction fame) and some pretty crunchy production. That's... pretty much all I've got for you. I put on "Victim Of Yourself" and my response was a wide-eyed "Well, bloody hell" out of sheer surprise; the album artwork portrayed this as another second-rate Slayer wannabe, but there's some tasty death metal influences hidden beneath the initial layer of thrashery that ties the whole package together very nicely. The pacing feels slightly padded out in places, but this is coming from a man who thinks that Anal Cunt are a progressive melodeath band so perhaps I'm being too harsh on it in my old age... I'm really quite lost when it comes to finding something particularly different or interesting to say about Nervosa. They've managed to write a pretty fucking solid album here - nothing you can't find anywhere else nowadays, but a solid album nonetheless. Fuck it, buy this one for sure!
