Nuclear Vomit - Koryto
This Polish death metal/grindcore band focus their songs primarily on pathology, porn and gore and have been doing so since 2005. After a change of member in 2006, they started working towards their demo released in 2006. Since then, they have released one full album and, after another member change, released their second album.
Their album bursts into life with some strange noises, including a pig snorting. This is then quickly replaced by skilful, speedy guitar and a drum that just takes over the rhythm section, providing a repetitive and deep bass beat that is heard over everything at times. When changing tracks, there is a small interlude of either Polish TV or what can only be described as an argument as the opener to the second. By this, you can tell the change in track as it isn’t immediately apparent with the instruments sticking to the same order as the first track. The guttural, deep and throbbing vocals are sparse at time, but at others, take their place overlaid on the instrumentals.
Each track takes a different introduction/interlude to lead you into the next. The track names really mean nothing as the bass screech makes it hard to understand the lyrics, but maybe that’s a good thing considering the track title and possible content! The pig squeal can be heard again and again on different tracks and at different times. The album at time also feels very loose and disjointed, and this creates a slightly pessimistic feel to it.
The growling and guttural screams also add to this pessimistic, low feeling, but this is counterpointed by the screeching squealing guitars and the deep, unforgettable bass rhythm created primarily by the strong drumbeat throughout. Surprisingly, it’s actually easy to listen to, more so than other death metal/grindcore albums and manages to hold its own as a unique point in metal.
