Once Godlike - Demo 2010
Once Godlike are from Belgium and right here as the name suggests is their 2010 demo/promo. There is a definite "core", vibe about the band. Their myspace suggests that they play death/black metal hybrid and you can see their point in a sense.
There are the core breakdowns that we have come to expect rom a lot of modern bands that lean towards the more straightforward facets of the core sound. They are not the standard breakdowns we have all heard before but are more subtle I imagine that this is deliberate on the part of the band. The death metal influence is more of a chugging riff influence as opposed to anything technical or slamming, again it is pretty basic. There is a black metal vibe on occasion most noticable in some of the blasts and vocals. Once Godlike are competent and will be ones to watch to see what they do next.
This is a demo and you can sense that throughout. The music on display here is well executed but does not deliver the killer blow. The guys do attempt to get epic on occasion here particularly on the closer - Part V ( all the tracke are numerals), but it does get slightly tedious and one dimensional - thry could have chopped a couple of minutes off the end to heighten the impact of the song. There is potential here - the guys just need to update the originlity stakes.
