Outrage - Conspirator
Outrage step their game up with their latest album, 'Conspirator.' In the past they've tended to lean more towards typical thrash, but here they evolve a bit more by delving into death metal and groove. While many tracks are typical thrash, such as "Whose Favourite Fills," with the rapid chugging guitars, grunted/ growled vocals, and equally fast drums that tend to be all riffs mixed with solos may burn out on those who are used to it. But, then there are other tracks like "Release In Thousand Days" which sounds more like melodic death metal along the lines of Amon Amarth as it bellows along in perfect fashion. The bass is also clearer than usual and adds a bit of technicality to the music.
Then there are even the rock based tracks that really make for some great groove thrash/ death metal. "Another Two Hours" features some eastern riffs and a bit of cultural diversity much in the way that Melechesh would perform their blackened Sumerian thrash. It is a bit slower than the other tracks, but highly enjoyable. "Cold Spots" is an excellent groove laden track that sounds more along the lines of AC/DC with death vocals, or possibly one of Six Feet Under's many (bad?) cover albums. The same can be said for "Stilling" which blends thrash with rock and death metal and makes for a great headbanging track that is catchy and aggressive.
While throughout the vocals can tend to feel one sided in their death snarl, the music/ instrumentation is heavily dynamic and certainly catchy. It sticks to the band's thrash roots, but adds a few surprises in there too which may be clear as day, or really take some listening to hear. But, old and new fans will really find this album a pinnacle of their career particularly because Outrage keep trying to step outside the boundaries of previous efforts and just hammer on while keeping fans grounded without being too experimental.
