P.K.I.K.T. - Mesmales Sukites Greitai
P.K.I.K.T. is a band emerging from Lithuania. To be honest: I never heard about this act before and I don´t know what the abbreviation stands for. Obviously P.K.I.K.T. is around since 2001 and already launched a debut album back in 2007.
Anyway, “Mesmales Sukites Greitai” contains 11 songs with a total playing time of almost 25 minutes. At least by now you should know P.K.I.K.T. isn´t a Pink Floyd or Opeth cover band. This release is bursting of harsh Grindcore assaults which were combined with some Punk and Thrash Metal riffs. The bigger part of the drum work is pure high speed blasting. Well executed, but it gets a bit boring after a while. Vocal wise, “Mesmales Sukites Greitai” offers some more alternations. P.K.I.K.T. penetrates your ears with two microphone abusers - one of them sounds like a bad-tempered snarling pig, the other one screams like there´s no tomorrow. Sounds like typical old school Grindcore stuff to you? Ok, you´re right. Unfortunately big surprises are scarce and some of the tracks seem to be reduced to a minimum of changes. On the other hand I guess the band´s aim was to compose a filthy and bone breaking straight-to-your-face album without any approximations to more trendy bullshit. The whole release contains a nice D.I.Y. spirit, but I think P.K.I.K.T. might be more entertaining on stage. All tracks are presented in the band´s native language, which makes it impossible for me to write something about their lyrics. If P.K.I.K.T. follows that old Grindcore path, they might have written about social issues and political unrests, but that´s just an assumption. Last but not least a words about the recording quality. This is of course no multi-million dollar high end production, but I already listened to CD´s with a worse sound. "Mesmales Sukites Greitai" has its rough edges, but it´s nevertheless pretty appealing. Feel free to check this release out if you´re into underground Grindcore.
