Party Cannon - Partied In Half

To say I'm not a fan of Scottish death metallers Party Cannon would be an absolute lie. I already own both the original, and re-release CDs for this EP. The reason I'm such a fan? Just look at that logo. Just look at that EP cover. How can you not be impressed by a brutal death metal band that has Incorporated something so unique into it's genre, that it stands out like a horse's cock in a field full of hungry mares. Exactly.

Although only three tracks long (Unless you have on the re-release CD like me), this brief EP contains some of the coolest slamming metal tracks an EP has to offer. Opener 'Duct Taped To A Flagpole' revitalises the genre as a whole. With an intro sample from the world-famous movie 'Superbad' - containing Seth Rogan's humorous and humble voice as he pester's the notorious McLovin just before they're about to ID him at the liquor store (Sorry for the minor spoiler, but the film did come out in 2007 so you should have watched it by now really, so don't be mad.) On this track, Stony "Fuckass" Reddie's vicious vocal capacity zaps listeners right in the ear drums as he combines deep-throat like low growls with frantic, and fairly odd but hyperactive screeching.

'Tyrone, You Put That Sugar Down' continues the EP's spasticated journey along a similar path truly enabling you to bounce around your bedroom to the ultimate slams that the band are able to provide. The production of this EP is great, not perfect, but just what it needs to sound tough. It's not exactly raw, but sure suits Stony's pig squeals on third and final track, 'High Five Ghost'. Instrumentally this song is as mental and uncontrollable as the previous two, but that doesn't mean the slams are of any less, as towards the end the catchiest slam riff yet ensues.

Party Cannon's purpose is destined for the underground music scene. Tour posters with their logo on instantly stick out and jump at your attention, even if they're the first band playing, with the smallest logo on the poster! Credibility is definitely due for originality, and quite frankly this EP isn't enough to quench this thirst of mine. Now all I'm waiting for is an album!
