Pentsign - Cacophonous March Of The Dark
Judging by their image, one can expect Black Metal (thanks to their corpse painting), from this Russian havoc, however the music shows otherwise. Pentsign is a new band and their debut album ‘Cacophonous March Of The Dark’ is their debut album which was released back in 2008.
Pentsign performs an outstanding mix of Black Death Metal filled with dynamic technique, and multi-dual guitar riffing almost approaching the Swedish style to a certain extent. The album contains 9 tracks and each track, brings a certain degree of challenge to the listener since in most cases, these changes are not predictable at all. In fact, their music is like a journey beyond the unexpected! Else one might try assuming what will happen next after the first riff, and be sure that most assumptions will lead to the wrong result. Their music is well structured and tight enough that guitar lovers may enjoy this one out loud. A good aspect of this band is that they managed to keep the dark feel of Black Metal while being bound with strong elements of old school Death Metal (think of Diabolic for a while). On the other hand, we can put aside anything related with brutality as occasional melodies and guitar solos do take place in their music.
Vocals are a bit unusual for this style. They sound more like dirty laments which are a bit semi-clean. On one hand this voice has a close approach to old school junky Thrash, and it may take a while to get used to it especially when correlating with their music… but… hey! It really fits!!
As such Pentsign sounds more like the Black Metal version of Diabolic (US) and Ravager (MX), and I am quite sure that their next release will be definitely outstanding!!
A SMASHING RELEASE!!!
