Perdition Winds - Perdition Winds

Perdition Winds are a new band to me and this is their first release a five track e.p. that kicks off with a very atmospheric intro before “Putrification” starts. This is a very sinister sounding black metal release with real dark, growly vocals from J.E. all the band have initials for names!!  The playing on this e.p. is very good, slow to mid tempo black metal with the odd blast beat thrown in. The next track on this release is “Corrupted Image of God” and it clocks in at over 8 minutes and again is a real swampy, deep black metal song. This band play black metal pretty much in the old style, it’s a low-if style which works well enough. Finland churns out such a load of extreme metal bands that it’s really hard to keep up with who is who!, this lot have a pedigree in other death and thrash bands but its for old school black metal that they excel at here. Guitarists R.A. and T.K. both are pretty useful and bass and second vocalist J.K.A backs them up ably. Drummer R.S. keeps the beat going and all in all the band are pretty proficient in what they do. Title track “Perdition Winds” is probably my favourite track on here, with it’s anguished cries and deep, nasty vocals and droning guitars it’s a very good track indeed. The e.p. has loads of atmosphere oozing out of it and if you like primitive old style black metal this one could well be for you, I liked it and I am definitely looking forward to a full length release from this band, this 5 tracker is a good taster of things to come.
