Plasma - Creeping! Crushing! Crawling!
The metal distro site dis-order.com describes Plasma as a, “Perverse German one man gore grind fest.” The band has one or two more members in its current line-up, the line-up includes (in part) that “one man” Marcus who survived the destruction of his former project Afterblast. Plasma rips away at the fabric of reality through its brutal guitar and drum feast and erodes those pieces still further with this strange liquid ooze vocal style that is surely filtering through one program after another. The result is a collaboration of sound that is as heavy as metal can be in its intent.
The band’s style can be described as DIY in its sound. There is no effect of large scale production or expensive studio time. Of course, those of you readers who have come to respect bands like Darkthrone and Ildjarn, these great bands of the black metal scene, should already realize that those bands’ true power lies partly in the DIY (some call it low-fi) quality of their recordings. It is in fact this independence that exhibits the metaphorical evil power of the band. This is true because Marcus and Company have created a sound that does not only declare in its brutality that it will not play along, but in fact the very sound that is created is not created by the “system.” Thus, the creation of Plasma’s Creeping! Crushing! Crawling! reveals an evil that sounds evil because it is not created by the system. Am I saying that plasma is a black metal band? Well, that is the question is it not? What I would say is that the drums, bass, and guitars are certainly of the powerful black metal edge, but the vocals, that computer fabricated bloody oozing sound is something else. Is it gore grind, death grind, or porn grind? I can not say and that is exactly why I stand behind Plasma’s CD Creeping! Crushing! Crawling! I say buy it today.
