Primitiv - Immortal & Vile
This is death metal from India, death metal that’s quite low end heavy too and does not rely on speed to get their point across. In fact, some aspects are quite laboured, if you mix SFU, Bolt Thrower and a touch of Morbid Angel, you get a good mix of the Primitiv sound. The vocals in particular are particularly pleasing, very deep and clear in fact… Then immerse yourself into the choppy low end material, especially one stand out track ‘Lake Rancid’, then you can shatter your mind if you play with enough volume.
The final track ‘Lords Of Primitiv’ actually sounds a little like the NOLA sound, Down and similar, a little touch of stoner groove, a touch of sludge then this is overall peppered with a death metal undertone. If I look at this as a whole, I could do with some faster tempos every now and again to change up the momentum, but for what this release is, it’s unique in this current clutter of bands these days within this sub-genre. For a debut release, the recording quality and the arrangements are pretty good and this band are definitely one to check out.
