Putrefy - One Nation Under Gore

The story of Putrefy began back in 1992 and with a demo entitled “Presumed Dead” a year later. This was followed by a Split with Altered Vision in 1994. After 6 years of nothing the band recorded a promo, which obviously was never released. 2002 saw the launching of a demo and the “Lust So Vile” EP. After another promo in 2004 it was time for Putrefy´s self-titled first full length album and a Split CD with Blasphtized and Vomitous Rectum. As you can see, these Northern Irish guys are pretty much experienced and no newcomers to the scene. So don´t expect uninspired riffs or half-baked ideas. “One Nation Under Gore” is an interesting piece of Death Metal brutality and nothing else. Down tuned string abusing meets guttural growling and pig squeals to satisfy your need for non-commercial extremity. The drum work is variable and ranges from breakdowns to blast beats, but the songs never get too chaotic or confusing, even if the band uses a lot of riffs in every track. Intros and outros are scarce, so “One Nation Under Gore” is a brutal creation without huge interruptons. The sound quality is simply heavy and the guitars will rip you apart. Every instrument is audible and not one single tone drowns in the background or somewhere else. Lyrically, the band is focussing on the typical gory and atrocious stories and I´m sure these sick minds excreted a bunch of funny stuff. Unfortunately it´s impossible to follow the lyrics, but that´s just a small spot of bother. The hidden track behind the song “Cranium Smashing Brutality” sounds like a cover of Internal Bleeding. I´m really not into this bad habit of hiding songs behind the last track, because in my opinion it´s just an artificial expanding of the total playing time. Anyway, “One Nation Under Gore” is definitely worth to check it out and I hope Putrefy will keep on releasing high quality Death Metal like this in the future. Keep the banner of sickness high!
