Reign Of Vengeance - Disemboweling Swine
This US band are one for lovers of gore and horror, obviously inspired by such movies, their gore death metal will take you to new sick places of your mind, and with a similar stance as Exhumed, one can wonder what this sick bunch will come up with next. Being on a movie label is something a little bit different, but the whole theme, lyrical content etc… is most definitely suited to the brain damaged ones!
Getting down to business are members of Decrepit Birth, Cephalic Carnage and ex-member of Abigail Williams out of the notable bands mentioned. Pinch harmonics and fast brutal guitar butchery remind me of Brain Drill’s first effort (Ivan Mungia features as a guest bassist on this album), to be honest, this is getting close to the mark with me. I cannot stand these pinched harmonics and guitar wanking for the hell of it within “brutal” death. But, Reign of Vengeance manages to baffle their biggest critic and actually entertain some melody, albeit in their own sick form, there is actual structure, control and hope, even if the track in question has the lovely title of “In the Club with a Chainsaw”! The remainder of these happy numbers like ‘She’s Best Kept Headless’ gore and blast like the early east coast classic brutal death metal instigators (Dying Fetus) and these modern technicalities are replaced with low end torture and unrelenting blasts of gore and filth.
A solid effort after a bum start to the album, relishing in filth and gore is a good place when you are with Reign of Vengeance, gore and death metal integrity is enhanced by their guest musicianship but the band themselves live and breathe horror. By buying ‘Disembowling Swine’ you are letting yourself into a release that bears no illusion, what you see if what you get and what you hear is what you get, I conclude by wading through bucketloads of dripping blood with my pulse racing to the point of cardiac arrest to turn off my stereo. A solid gore soaked effort mixing the old and the new in terms of brutal US death metal madness.
