Remasculate - Perversemonger
The Swedes in Remasculate have only been together four years but their sound is as powerful and rapid as brutal death can be. Of course there are always ways to adjust and innovate sound in this genre but Remasculate has released quite a heavy project in their PERVERSEMONGER. Only six of the sixteen tracks on the CD are longer than two minutes and I think this is essential because Remasculate is not an arty band, they play hard and jump into the death grind mode quickly in each track. For instance, on the fourth track, “Abscessories” (an excellent track name if you ask me), there is a slow distortion swirl of guitars for 5 seconds then the band speeds into action and the vocals start at exactly that moment too. There is something so beautiful about this kind of simplicity. I think of The Haunted in regards to simplicity in a band (fellow Swedes) but not in their sound, just their power. The Haunted is influenced to a greater degree by hardcore than is Remasculate but I am sure my point is clear.
This is a band that does add cool few-second intros to their songs. For instance, “Boogie Man” has a rock intro that sounds like Stone Temple Pilots (not at all a bad thing because the gravitas of the rest of the track is THERE). And “When I was Abroad” introduces its grand speed with something out of Black Sabbath I think. These intros are, again, very short, but open the tracks in such a way that when the vengeance breaks out it is balanced by a sort of quiet musical rationality. I hope this makes sense. Remasculate is a quality band in their genre and they will probably only get larger musically and more vile (yay!).
