Revulsion - Defiled

From Finland, old school death metal travels well in these parts, and the influence of the early American death metal wave speaks volumes for some of Revulsion’s music. Take a pinch of Deicide, Morbid Angel and Massacre, mix with modern Swedish influences such as Paganizer, then you have something special, you have Revulsion.

This is a self-released EP, but it is no amateur hour production, nor is it a couch potato or fan boy metal by numbers release. This is death metal that vocally combines a grunt like a bastard sun of Glen Benton and Kam Lee in one breath. The modern old school Swedish approach kicks you around the head during ‘Irresponsible’ and this displays a thundering juggernaut of bass and kick drum ability, it is this ability that nearly tears my speaker cones from their relatively safe set position. It can be loud, it needs to be, at higher volumes Revulsion annoy your neighbours and ensure that you won’t get asked around for any social activity other than a bloodbath.  Making music in this vein is recently a risky business, I say this as there is a plethora of bands doing this thing, I have yet to find a really bad band in this situation, but I would never gasp Revulsion’s name in that same breath, this is powerful authentic music. Time changes crop up from time to time, all thick with heritage, perhaps you could be excused for having a heard it all before attitude, but, I don’t get that feeling myself at all. Whilst colourful song titles include ‘Napalm Bath’ and ‘Galvanised Steel Wire Prison’, Revulsion check the quality of their material and deliver arrangements with a little substance, and hence, this EP will stand the test if time, so long as there are sick undead individuals willing to part with their cash for this great piece of death metal.
