Rise Of An Empire – Dismemberment Of Sanity
British slamming death crew Rise Of An Empire are here with a full length album appropriately titled "Dismemberment Of Sanity", where we are greeted with a barrage of straight up brutal death metal. A genre like this isn’t really something that strays off the path too much, you keep to your blast beats, your slams, your undecipherable growls from the depths of the clogged up kitchen drain you should’ve got fixed weeks ago and your general goal to sound as less mainstream and inaccessible as possible. Rise Of An Empire tick the boxes of being a good brutal death metal/slamming deathcore/whatever you’d like to call it “core” band, and although not entirely original and ground-breaking, this album is still a great ride from start to finish.
Let’s talk about instruments. Guitars are brutal and riveting, they have their basic checklist of requirements for the need to destroy venues but also come with a twist, I heard some cool little melodies in songs here and there that was honestly a fresh surprise. Even though admittedly yes, these weren’t the melodic or uplifting sort, but rather the ones that make you feel the earth below is going to part before you like the red sea and you’ll be sucked into some assortment of the gates of hell. The drums powered along like the steam train I expected them to be and my god did the vocals hit hard. They were very much the “toilet bowl” gutturals we come to love from this genre that were flayed on to these tracks and sounded monstrous and horrific in a very dirty but brilliant way. The singer even went to the extent of adding some high screams which I praised since some bands in this genre stick with the consistent vocal gurgle that doesn’t change at all through the entire album.
"Dismemberment Of Sanity" isn’t ground-breaking, it isn’t going to be the next Jimi Hendrix Experience, but what it is, is a solid brutal death metal album that spices things up in subtle ways that is sure to start a wild mosh pit in any venue that Rise Of An Empire play at.
