Rotten - Rotten

Here it comes the debut of the French death metal band Rotten, an insane old school death metal style that I am sure you will like. Formed in 2016 in Poitiers by Ben on vocals, Djé on bass, Guillaume on guitars and Cyril on drums. This is the debut "Rotten" released by Bleed Records, a division of Inferno Records to support old school. And this is a perfect example of that support.

The sound of this band is a sick mix between old Swedish death metal (without the melodic part of that style), old Pestilence, old Paradise Lost and old Florida death metal (Obituary specially, even there is a cover of 'Til Death'). Taking the agonic parts of old doom death metal too, and with an excellent use and abuse of voice, maybe one of the main signs of this band, as well as a feeling of agony forever, low and slow crushing riffs.

'Visceral Nebula' is the first track, with a dirty but clear sound, crushing riffs, low tones, desperate voices and sad melody, and low and heavy riff in an unusual end. 'Umbilical Cord Of The Purulent Planet', has a starting crushing riff, a slow and doom part (old Paradise Lost), covered with a mad and trembling voice. 'Stellar Echoes From Decomposed Life', this track has more influence of Obituary, nice work with bass drum, buzz bass line, low and slow crushing riffs, some doom part too, with those desperate screams, nice.

'Submission To The Rotten Castle' after an intro, slow riffs, doom with agonic screams, crushing and slow, some part with double bass drumming and some fast snare. No blast beat and of course slow riffs, agonic.
'Floating Among The Dead Celestial Bodies' has a powerful start and is faster than the previous ones. Also here with doom and tenebrous parts as on the whole album, to finish with a continuous riff with double bass drum line.

And to finish the album with a cover of Obituary 'Til Death', of course. The Florida band is an influence in the music of Rotten and they honor them with this nice cover. The voice is very similar to John Tardy´s, talking about style of singing.

Well this is a good album, where we can listen to some good old school death metal. Agony, insane, some funeral hymns, virtuosity is not necessary in this case, just transmitting true death metal.
