Rotting Kingdom – Rotting Kingdom
American doom flavoured death metallers Rotting Kingdom issue the first ever release with their self-titled EP.
With 3 tracks clocking in a just short of 25 minutes the band have long songs that build intensity and atmosphere and unfold in time. Musically they play death metal on a slow doom flavour and incorporate a ton of melody. Think of a mixture of Swallow The Sun and Paradise Lost and a bit of old school Swedish death metal, think Gorement or something like that.
Opening track 'Adrift In A Sea Of Souls' really sets the tone with the melancholic but catchy as hell melodic riffs. It really sets things up and when the track goes into a heavy part it’s really effective and makes for a great climax. The main melody running through 'Demons In Stained Glass' also will haunt you!
This is a great little package. Beautifully presented with gorgeous artwork. It gives you just enough to keep you intrigued. This is a very good start. I very much look forward to seeing how this band develops. File under “rising stars".
