Sadako – Panic Transistor
Released in June 2013, "Panic Transistor" is a smorgasbord of a few different types of metal - the most prominent being industrial. The music coupled with the song titles and lyrics is reminiscent of a mash-up of GWAR and Fear Factory.
It is difficult to pull off heavy and poppy at the same time, but Sadako, who hail from Austria, do a fairly good job on their latest album.
This release starts with club-type music and goes into heavy guitars. At first listen, I thought it was a pop album, but then realized it is heavy metal you can dance to… almost.
'The Difference Between You And Me Is I'm Not Bleeding' is riddled with clips from television programs, most of what seem news quotes and interview lines. A line in the song, 'Once upon a time, ignorance was bliss,' helps the song make sense with the news clips. This song ends with 'His future is threatened with nuclear arms.' Makes sense. Also, the content of this song is why music should never be judged on title alone. At first glance, it seemed this was a derogatory remark toward women (GWAR-esque). However, after further listen, it's anything but.
The singer's voice is gritty but soothing on most tracks, particularly 'Apes, Pigs and Black Holes.' This is the catchiest track on the album with tight drums and appealing leads. He has a bit of a Marilyn Manson thing going on with the dark, metallic sounding voice.
Consistent throughout most of the track, the techno end of this album is everywhere it should be. There is no overkill on the keyboards or sound bites from different media.
If you like techno metal or industrial metal, you'll want to pick up this CD. It is definitely different, catchy and interesting.
