SixOneSix - Reset

Stockholm, Sweden, one of the boiling points for magical death metal over the years, this band are from the said City, but would certainly suit the “Gothenburg-sound” tag much more. ‘Reset’ sounds a little industrial (drum sound alone) death, and quickly sets the tone for the EP release. This band is quite melodic, they have power, certainly in the vocals, the phrasing is good and the delivery is powerful. Some of the lighter moments are a little too light in places, but I guess this is a nice sound to relax too, you certainly wont be creating a riot with this release. ‘Away’ is again, very melodic, and would not upset Dark Tranquillity (‘Haven’ era) lovers or even mid period Paradise Lost or Soilwork; the slow run down on the main riff reminds me of some Danzig numbers.

One the whole, it is a release that will please modern melodic death lovers, its not “old” enough for me, neither is it fast enough. I find the many gothic/melodic harmonies in the music favourable, but just not rotten enough, a little too nice.

1. Reset
2. Away
3. Let It Go
