Skogyr - Rainchants

Skogyr is Russian and is an one man project of a guy called Farakh. The history is going back to 2005 with the main intention to create instrumental music filled with the atmosphere of solitude and longing.

Is "Rainchants" is with 40 minutes and 5 songs an EP or full length? Anyway, it begins with whistling birds and followed by rain when it run over in dwelling chanitng melody and it ends with rain again. And damn, the second songs also begins with brids... although the music is heavier and has more tempo. The songs that follow are all called chants and that is what it is. Epic, dark, grim chanting melodies with no vocals. Instrumental they call it also and there are differences between the songs it also could easily be 1 track. It is nice but you have to be in the mood to listen to it. The cover by Akira Yamaoka doesn't ring a bell but it is more guitar driven. All together it is a nice extended EP for the dark hours.
