Smut – Slop

"Slop" is the debut and sole release from Smut if Metal Archives is anything to go by because according to that site the band have split up!

Smut (with members of Blood Freak, Frightmare, Fornicator and Lord Gore) play a mix of old school death metal and grindcore. On the 12 tracks hear the average time length of a track is 1:30 with one song going over the 3 minute mark. There isn’t much going on in variation, each track kicks in blasts away for 1 or 2 minutes comes to an abrupt finish and 1,2,3,4 they start again. It’s laced with samples splitting up the tracks here and the. There are some impressive dirty sounding riffs and blazing solos. It’s got a punk rawness to it. I also like the artwork which is somewhere between Autpopsy’s "Mental Funeral" and Morbid Angel’s "Altars Of Madness".

On the hole though it a basic grind album. Nothing more and nothing less. It’s not bad but it won’t be sticking in your memory for long.
